Who they are
Opening Up The Outdoors (OUTO) is a European initiative working to make outdoor spaces and culture more inclusive, equitable and accessible. The network brings together outdoor industry companies, community organisations, researchers and practitioners committed to transforming the sector. Founded in 2021 in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement, OUTO emerged from a collective effort to address systemic barriers and inequalities within outdoor activities and to promote greater justice, equity and diversity in the outdoor ecosystem.
Through training programs, resources, research and dialogue platforms, the initiative supports organizations in evolving their practices and encourages long-term cultural change across the European outdoor sector.
TESTIMONY
Our collaboration began with a creative idea launched on April 1st, 2024, which quickly evolved into a concrete campaign with Greater Goods to raise funds for Opening Up The Outdoors.
This initiative marked the start of a relationship built on trust, ambition, and a shared desire to explore new approaches. Together, we use creativity and outdoor culture to spark conversations, mobilize resources, and promote a more inclusive outdoor sector, both by evolving our internal practices and inspiring the wider industry.
